In a post published a couple weeks ago, we discussed the strides made by Georgia to legalize and facilitate the sale and use of medical cannabis in the state. One of the final steps to that end was the adoption of regulations that had been proposed by the Georgia Access to Medical Cannabis Commission.
The Commission held a meeting on January 18, 2023 to allow members of the public to voice their thoughts and any concerns on the regulations that had been proposed. Several speakers made use of the opportunity. Representatives of the two Class 1 licensees, Botanical Sciences, LLC and Trulieve GA, Inc. spoke, followed by three representatives of the group Georgians for Responsible Marijuana Policy and a representative from the Georgia First Amendment Foundation.
On January 25, 2023, the Commission met and formally adopted the regulations, a critical hurdle to paving the way for sales of low THC oil to begin. More work lies ahead, but the public can reasonably anticipate that sales of medical cannabis in Georgia are now months, rather than years, away. The Commission will likely have additional meetings in the near future on those next steps, which will be publicly available here.
